When you borrow materials for the first time in the school year, please fill out a registration card at the Library desk. ID card (magnetic card) or Central Library card is required, when you borrow. You can confirm the details about following services by Usage Inquiry of OPAC.
Suspending your right to check out the books and materials while you have not returned the overdue books and materials. |

You have to return at the library counter.
When GSID Library closed, you put return box.
If you return the fragile material, such as video tapes, CD-ROMs, please return at the Library counter.
| Reservations |
You can make a reservation if the book you need is out.
Please apply the "Application form to reserve books" at the Library counter.
You can confirm the details about following services by OPAC.
・Items which you are checking out now.
You can also use the temporary borrowing service if the book is out for a long time.
And, if you get request of temporary returning, we do ask for your co-operation.
| Renewal |
A loan period can be renewed as many as possible, unless the books and material is requested by another user.
When you renew the due date, please bring your ID card and the books in due date.
Other users have made a request for the book, it can’t be renewed.
Library materials are common property.
Please handle them with sensitivity and responsibility.

Journals, Newspapers, Reference Books can be borrowed only temporarily for copying or for overnight loan.
Short-time loan for photocopying
Fill in the necessary items on the notebook at the Library desk and return it when you finished.
Please return the material on the same day.
If you use the carry over to next day, you use the "Overnight loan".
You can borrow many books as you want (no limit).

Check out time: All materials must be checked out after 16:30.
Return time: By 10:30 of the following day.

First section is NDC. Second section is Author's initial. Third section is series number. Fourth section is book ID. |

| NDC : Nippon Decimal Classification |
Nippon Decimal Classification : NDC classifies materials under numbers of decimal system structured by subject.
NDC divides subjects into 10 areas from general works to literature.

In GSID Library, we use NDC for arrangement, too. Those related materials are closely shelved. When you need the books, you should browse the near materials. But a book has not always only one subject. In common case, a book has several subjects. When an author views same subjects differently, NDC is changed. In interdisciplinary field, subject cannot be always classfied by NDC. Therefor browsing is not good enough to search books. When you search the books, you should browse the bookshelf and search Nagoya University Library OPAC. Even if books with development in its title, NDC vary from book to book.

Back issues are kept for 1 year in GSID Library.
Once a year these back issues are to be bound.
Bound journals are located in first basement in Central Library(There are a few exceptions).
Please search the location of journals by Nagoya University Library OPAC.
When you have any problems, please feel free to ask us.
When you search for electronic journals, please use Nagoya University Electoronic Journal Database.
Journals can be borrowed temporarily just for copying or for overnight use and reading in GSID Library.

Newspapers can be borrowed temporarily just for copying or for overnight use and reading in GSID Library.
Back issues are kept for 1 year. Please ask at the counter of GSID Library.
When you use the other newspapers, please go to Central Library and other department libralies, use electronic newspapers, watch the WWW site.
| GSID Recommended Books |
"GSID recommended Books" are very basic textbooks which GSID professors recommended students to read.
When you search GSID Recommended books by OPAC, the first word of the call number are written in Kanji characters (推薦).
It means recommended.
GSID recommended books can be borrowed for 1 week, up to 2 items.

When you search Reserved books by OPAC, the first two words of the call number are written in Kanji characters (指定).
It means reserved.
These books can be borrowed temporarily just for copying or for overnight use.
| GSID Disertations |
GSID dissertations can be borrowed for 1 week, up to 2 items.
When you search GSID dissertations by OPAC, the first two words of the call number are written in Kanji characters (博論).
It means dissertation.
In Nagoya University, all dissertations release after the six months at conferral of degree.
You can search the bibliographic data of the GSID dissertations by OPAC.
For the dissertations of other department in Nagoya University, please search Dissertation Catalog.
And some dissertations opens from Nagoya Repository.

GSID Master Theses are included in the notebook computer.
Please apply for library counter.
You cannot get out the GSID Library and save the data.

When you search referense books by OPAC, call number starts at the alphabetical character "R".
These books are only for short time loan for photocopying or for overnight loan.
| Audio Visual Materials |
When you search audio visual materials by OPAC, call number starts at the alphabetical character "V".
Videotapes and DVD can be borrowed for 1 week, up to 2 items.
In GSID Library, you can watch the videos and DVDs.
| Cassette and CD for Language Studying |
When you search Cassette and CD for Language Studying・CD by OPAC, the first two words of the call number are written in Kanji characters (語学).
It means language studying.
Cassette and CD for Language Studying can be borrowed for 1 month, up to 2 items.

When you search CD-ROMs by OPAC, call number starts at the alphabetical character "C".
You can use the CD-ROMs in GSID Library.
Please use the CD-ROMs from AM 09:30 to PM 17:00. And you cannot get out the GSID Library.

You can use the microfilms and microfisches in ths GSID Library.
