 |
 |
Q 4-1: |
What is covered by the ADB-JSP Scholarship? |
 |
A: |
The ADB-JSP Scholarship covers:
1) tuition, selection and admission fees; 2) monthly stipend
including subsistence allowance, national health insurance,
housing and miscellaneous expenses; 3) student medical and
accident insurance usually obtained through Nagoya University;
4) book allowances; 5) thesis/research trip allowance; 6) economy
class airfare by the most direct route to and from Nagoya to
the scholar's home country; and 7) miscellaneous expenses such
as arrival allowance, excess luggage allowance, etc.The amount
of monthly stipend will be almost at the same level as that
provided under the scholarship sponsored by the Ministry of
Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of the Government
of Japan (Monbukagakusho Scholarship). Please note that the
Scholarship does not cover any expenses for accompanying family
members of the ADB-JSP scholars. |
Q 4-2: |
What is the duration of the scholarship
award? |
 |
A: |
The scholarship is for one
year with an extension to the second year of study, as appropriate,
which shall be conditional on the scholar maintaining a satisfactory

Q 4-3: |
Upon the completion of my study
at GSID, can I remain in Japan in order to further my study
in doctoral program under my own expense or work in Japan? |
 |
A: |
The recipients of ADB-JSP need
to undertake in writing that they will return to their home
countries immediately after the completion of their study program
or when dismissed from the school. The scholars are expected
to contribute to the economic and social development of their
home countries. |
Q 5-1: |
May my family accompany me to Nagoya
while I am studying at GSID? |
 |
A: |
GSID recommends ADB-JSP scholars
not to bring their family members at least in their initial
travel to Nagoya, as on-campus housing may be available only
for the first six months of their stay in Nagoya, and off-campus
private housing for family accommodation is generally costly
and hard to find in Nagoya (see the answer to the next question
below). It is thus advisable that you bring your family only
after you are well settled in your new life in Nagoya. |
Q 5-2: |
Can I stay in on-campus housing? |
 |
A: |
GSID will try to find on-campus
accommodation for ADB-JSP scholars, but occupancy of on-campus
housing is not guaranteed and depends on the room vacancy at
the time of their arrival. Moreover, on-campus accommodation
is available only for the initial six months after arrival,
and residents of such on-campus housing must terminate their
occupancy by the end of the six-month period.Off-campus private
housing for single occupancy (one room) costs range from US$
300 to US$ 600 a month.In addition, when signing a lease, you
need to pay security deposits and broker fees, often equivalent
to four to six months of rents (i.e., US$ 1,200 to US$ 3,600).These
costs have to be borne from within your monthly allowances
provided as part of the ADB-JSP Scholarship. No additional allowance
will be provided by GSID or ADB to meet your special housing
needs. |
