The Graduate School of International
Development aims to educate researchers
and professionals who can contribute
to international development cooperation
and international communications as detailed
in our Mission Statement. Through nurturing
broad understanding of the issues in
development cooperation / international
communications and providing advanced
skills in eight specialized educational
programs, we equip graduates with excellent
independent research capability and practical
work skills.
In light of the above aims, the International
Development and Cooperation Course seeks
students with the following abilities
and interests.
Persons with a basic foundation in a
specific field of international development
cooperation who would like to:
- Pursue careers in international
development cooperation and/or socioeconomic
development in developing countries;
- Engage in research or practical
work according to the actual conditions
and needs of each developing country,
based on an understanding of the development
experiences of Japan and other Asian
countries and critical study of Western
development theory;
- Acquire practical field-based
knowledge of development cooperation
work, and/or pursue careers as specialists
with field-based planning, management,
and problem-solving skills;
- Acquire both specialized academic
skills and a broad foundation in development
studies, in order to understand realities
in developing countries by investigating
a specific field of study within its
interdisciplinary and general context;
- Consider ideal patterns for cross-cultural
exchange and deepen their own understanding
of different cultures through studying
with international students, andmake
use of this experience in professional
fields;
- Apply their work experience for
international development cooperation,
and/or, persons currently working
in international development cooperation
who want to conduct academic research
on issues encountered in the field.
In light of the above aims, the International
Communication Course seeks students with
the following abilities and interests.
Persons with a basic foundation in a
specific field of international communications
who would like to:
- Pursue careers as researchers,
educators, or professionals in fields
related to language and culture;
- Develop the ability to analyze
and comprehensively understand today’s
global society through a pluralistic
approach to interchange and change
between individuals and their cultures;
- Reconsider from a specialized
and interdisciplinary view issues
encountered
in professional or personal experience
of a different culture;
- Pursue careers as language researchers
able to use a corpus, and/or construct
language theory based on detailed
observation of language;
- Engage in scientific research
into second language acquisition theory
and/or foreign language education;
- Consider ideal patterns for cross-cultural
exchange and deepen their own understanding
of different cultures through studying
with international students, and/or
make use of this experience in professional
fields.
